In 1999 Philip Michael Thomas and Sandi Morais established a partnership and formed Sacha and the Magic Cookie Production Company. The company is a Miami based theatrical company designed to produce wholesome quality family entertainment through products such as, plays, books, art, video games and movies. For the past seven years Sacha on Broadway has touched the hearts of thousands of people ages ranging from 8 to 80 who have seen the stage play in places such as, Miami, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Hollywood, Florida, Orlando, Florida, Ocean Reef, Florida, Hampton, Virginia and New York City. The positive effects of the play have been so overwhelming that most of the people who have seen the play once, come back over and over to see it again. They even want to purchase souvenirs. Sacha on Broadway has received rave reviews from major media, television, radio, newspaper and magazines. In 2005 Dr. Deborah Levy, a psychologist from North Miami states in her review, “This play is one of the most empowering literary pieces I have seen in decades.” Ever so often an original play hits Broadway such as The Wizard of Oz, West Side Story and Hair with a powerful message through their story and music that touches the world and transcends time and culture. We believe that our original musical play Sacha sends a message of love, hope, courage and the power within that will touch the world in the same way for this new generation. 1999 Philip Michael Thomas and Sandi Morais wrote their first children's book titled "Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker Coloring Story Book and other short stories which was illustrated by Philip's eleven year old daughterImajhananda Thomas. In May, 1999, I called Philip Michael Thomas in New York
and asked him to send me some of his children songs because I wanted to introduce my Pre-School class at Sunset Christian Academy where I was teaching in Miami, Florida some new songs. Philip sent me five songs “The Big Old Elephant & The Teeny Weeny Mouse, Magic Cookie Maker, Granddaddy Said, I Love My ABC’S and A.E.I.O.U. I played the songs for the children and they were excited. After playing the songs a few times, the children knew all the words to the songs. I was amazed how quickly they were able remember the words to the songs. I told Philip about the positive reaction I had with the children regarding his music, and that I thought we should turn the songs into stories for young children. Philip agreed, and we wrote Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker coloring story book about his eldest daughter Sacha’s experience when he took her to the Magic Cookie Factory in Los Angeles, California, when Sacha was 4 years-old. Between 1999 and 2001, we wrote and produced the book and the musical score for the play titled “Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker. The play included all the children songs from the Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker Coloring story book. We co-produced and premiered the play on January 12, 2001 with the Ft. Lauderdale Children’s Theater and published Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker Coloring Story book & Other short Stories. In October 2001 Philip Michael Thomas was the Artist-In-Residence at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. I accompanied Philip as his assistant, co-writer and producer of the play. Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker was produced at the Armstrong Theater at Hampton University as the end of the semester production. We also produced Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker which I directed at the Hollywood Playhouse in Hollywood, Florida, Florida International University and, the Byron Carlyle Theater on Miami Beach, Florida. In 2005, the play was further developed and the name was changed to Sacha on Broadway and we produced it at The Theater of the Riverside Church in New York City. In 2007 we produced Sacha on Broadway at Jones High School in Orlando, Florida. In 2020 Sacha and the Magic Cookie Maker coloring story book was further developed to include music, and activities for children ages 3-9. We hope that parents, children and teachers will enjoy these wonderful stories and activities the way Philip and I enjoyed creating them. “Love is the Magic and the Magic is You”.
